Alice McCall, the Australian fashion brand synonymous with sparkly party dresses and a disco flavour, has appointed administrators as COVID-19 wreaked financial havoc on the business.
The designer’s spokeswoman confirmed on Monday morning that Sydney-based insolvency firm SVPartners had been appointed to handle the process, which will result in the closure of eight of its 12 physical stores and the laying off of several staff.
In a statement, McCall said it was with a “heavy heart” that she called in administrators.
“Due to the unprecedented effects that COVID-19 has had on our economy, as well as some unsustainable bricks and mortar rental obligations, I have had to make a necessary decision to edit down my business, with the objective of building a more sustainable business model for the future,” she said.
