Australian rum maker Brix Distillers files for administration

Sydney-based rum producer Brix Distillers is seeking a buyer as it heads into voluntary administration.

Sydney Distilling Co – which trades as Brix Distillers – appointed Ben Carson and Richard Stone from RSM Australia Partners as its joint administrators on 21 January 2026.

Founded in 2017, Sydney Distilling Co opened the city’s first dedicated craft rum distillery, alongside a cellar door and bar, in the inner-city suburb of Surry Hills.

The administrators are currently exploring all available options to help pay back creditors and maintain the spirits producer’s operations, including the sale of business assets or recapitalisation through a deed of company arrangement (DOCA).

Carson described Brix Distillers as a “legacy Australian distillery brand”.

He said: “We are currently speaking to a number of parties who have expressed interest in the future of this premium craft rum brand and business.

“We are greatly encouraged by the interest shown in the brand and available assets and are hopeful of executing a sale or entering into a DOCA.”
