Boutique Sydney rum maker Sydney Distilling Co has gone into voluntary administration, with a firm exploring every option possible to save the legacy distillery brand.
The business trading under the name Brix Distillers has appointed RSM Australian Partners as administrators of the business.
Brix is Sydney’s first craft rum focused distillery and has operated out of Surry Hills since 2017.
It has received numerous accolades, including World’s Best Unaged Rum at the World Rum Awards for their White Can Spirit in 2020 and 2022.
It was also named Best Rum at the 2023 Tasting Australia Spirit Awards.
The business entered into administration on January 21, 2026.
RSM Australia director Ben Carson said administrators were exploring all available options, including the sale of business assets or recapitalisation through a deed of company arrangement (DOCA) to maximise returns of to creditors while keeping the business alive.
“We are currently speaking to a number of parties who have expressed interest in the future of this premium craft rum brand and business,” Mr Carson said.
