Miss Chu, the Sydney chain of Vietnamese tuckshops, has gone into voluntary administration.

However the six tuckshops will remain open, founder Nahji Chu said.

“We are in voluntary administration, but it does not mean that we have closed down,”

“Our doors are open, our Sydney stores including Manly are trading. We rely on trade to stay open,” Nahji Chu said.

The business, which employs approximately 190 staff in its head office, head kitchen and retail outlets, was placed in the hands of insolvency firm KordaMentha before Christmas.

KordaMentha will work with Miss Chu’s management to explore sales options while the retail and catering businesses continue to trade, spokesman Mike Smith said.

“It’s business as usual while we explore sales’ option, the tuckshops are staying open, suppliers have come to the party and overheads have been reduced,” Mr Smith said.

The Manly tuckshop has been trading well over the New Year.”

Miss Chu CBD tuckshop has been closed over the Christmas holiday, Mr Smith said.

Miss Chu started as a catering business in 2007 and expanded into retail tuckshops in Sydney, Melbourne and London. The Manly tuckshop opened in 2103.

The first creditors’ meeting will take place on January 7.
